Problem Cause Remedy Belt Generally Worn Rough/Worn Sheave Groove Clean, Repair, or Replace Sheave General Belt Deterioration Belt Dressing DO NOT use belt dressing. Clean or Replace Belts. Belt Slips Drive under-tensioned Retension. Belt Slips Sheaves worn Belt bottoming in grooves Belt Breakage Excessive shock or starting load Check drive design. Belt Breakage Improper installation. Install new belts. Belt Jacket Worn Belt Slippage Check & Correct Tension Belt Jacket Worn Misaligned drive Align shafts & sheaves Belts Check or Crack Belts slipping Increase tension.
